Do we have a real TV service in Syria? It is a laughable question to ask about TV service in the current era where the world is talking about the Internet TV and other high technology services based on TV applications.
In fact, We don’t have a real quality TV service Syria. What we have is a poor public TV tries to be a good destination for the Syrian viewers. The public TV which we have lakes the professionalism which can attract the viewers. One Satellite channel and a couple of a local channels don’t have the basic conditions to attract people. The private TV still limited in Syria Just one channel(Addounia) owned by the same inner circle which owned the only private newspaper.
There was a trial to launch a series and independent Syrian channel(Sham) in 2006, however, this trial has been aborted by those who owners of Addounia Channel. We can as Analytics justify what happened as a trial to monopoly the Advertising market in Syria.
The channel has been launched from outside Syria and is attracting the Syrian Viewers and advertisements. It is not known yet when it will return to its origin in Syria. The problem is related to the license which should be given by the ministry of information which is the official organizer of the TV sector as well as other media sectors in Syria.
There is a new Syrian channel is preparing to be launched from Dubai. Its owner refused to get or even try to get a license from the Syrian organizer. Its reason is logical one. He doesn’t want to pass through the experience of Sham channel.
Needless to say at the end that the Syrian viewers are depending on Pan-Arabs channels like Aljazeera to get their news and discuss their problems.
