Why Internet service in Syria is Worst in the world?

Yes, I still use the Dial up modem to connect my notebook to the World Wide Web. You may be surprised, but that is the truth. I know that the world is going digital, however, we still depend on a low standard technology and we still buy it as an up to date one.

Imagine that I am paying about 0.35 $ for the hour. It is something very expensive in comparison to what we hear about prices and the speed of the internet in the world. My email account with Google is affected by the slow and bad internet connection. I can’t use the standard G-mail frontage and I am using the basic HTML Version of G-mail. It is an awful thing at least for me.

No body could answer, neither publics nor officials: why it is the worst service in the world? They used to justify this awful service that it is a consequence of the American sanctions on Syria. What they don’t say that it is a way of a monopoly which is widely common in the Syrian tiny economy.

Recently, the two Syrian mobile providers MTN and Syriatel have launched the internet mobile service which depends on 3.5 G technology, however, it’s still limited and expensive. According to the tow providers, it just covers The two main cities in Syria, Damascus and Aleppo with a variation in the coverage and its strength in the two cities regions.

This new service is covering less than 20 % of the Syrian population. The prices itself are very expensive. The one Gigabyte costs about 30 $ monthly. The Syrian average personal Income is around 175 $ monthly. The two providers are owned by a close to the authority persons.

Those persons also monopoly a lot of Syrian economic sectors, even though, The Syrian anti-monopoly law.

In Nepal too, the internet quality isn’t satisfactory, but is better then Syria which you mentioned above. The per capita income is far less than Syria i.e. nearly 300$ per annum. Some ISP (Internet Service Providers) are giving standard and quality services but they aren’t affordable for common people. Dial-up is rarely seen in Nepal nowadays, which was popular in Nepal before 2 years. Now, Nepal Telecom has launched ADSL technology, which is affordable for common Nepali people but it needs landline telephone line and is limited in Kathmandu Valley. It costs $20 per month for 128 Kbps speed, by which user can use unlimited internet facility. Thanks Mustafa for stating your problem in the forum.
